3D Modeling

Maya and Substance Painter are my go-to tools for 3D modeling. The vast majority of what I create is used in real-time engines like Unity and Unreal. Some of my pieces have been used in live television broadcasts as well.

Steampunk VIVE Controllers by evanzappel on Sketchfab

I modeled these in Maya for the VR game Cliffstone Manor.  The texturing was done with Substance Painter. They are fully interact able with animations, sound effects, and particles in the game.

Forgotten Grand Victorian Mansion by evanzappel on Sketchfab

I grew up in area that had a lot of these old Victorians.  In the 80s, many were neglected and fell into ruin. Yet their intricate details and glass-work was still there to hint at the past glory of the house.

This mansion was modeled in Maya and was textured completely with repeating materials I created in Photoshop.  The idea being that in an actual game engine, these materials could be used on many different building and props.

Old Transit Train by evanzappel on Sketchfab

On my way to GDC in 2019, I saw a tired old BART car sitting off on a side track. I decided to model one and slightly re-brand it  to  the fictional BAY AREA CITY TRANSIT. Modeled in Maya and textured with Substance Painter.

WIP - SciFi Factory Crate Loading Arm by evanzappel on Sketchfab

A Sci-Fi crate mover I made for a game project.  The arm was rigged and animated and would follow a track around a warehouse. Modeled in Maya and textured with Substance Painter.

Low Poly Shanty Cabin by evanzappel on Sketchfab

This piece was part of a set of gold mining props I made for a mobile game project. I modeled it in Maya and hand painted the texture in Photoshop.

Broadcast models

These 3D sponsor logos were created for use in live NHRA broadcasts.  They were all modeled and textured by me using Maya and Substance Painter.
